How to Clean a Duvet Cover

Duvet covers are meant to protect more delicate and hard to wash bedding options, such as down quilts or other "dry clean only" bedding items. So remember that it is entirely acceptable for your duvet cover to get a little grimy! It is protecting your more valuable bedding, and duvet covers are easy to switch out with new and different duvet covers for a fresh look to your bedroom.

  1. First: Spot scrub

Perhaps you enjoy bringing both your coffee and your dog into bed with you on a Sunday morning. A sloshed coffee cup can leave a whopper of a stain, as can muddy, dirty paws. Remove the duvet cover and promptly spot scrub the area. Simply pouring detergent directly on the stain, then using a brush to scrub the spot works fine. An old sponge or rag works too.

  2. Second: Launder immediately

Even without a big stain, but maybe just some old-fashioned dust and hair from overuse, removing your duvet cover and washing promptly - and often - ensures a clean sleeping area for you. Most duvet covers are machine washable and dryable, but of course, always check the label.

  3. Third: Other considerations

Always follow label directions, but it is never a bad idea to launder your duvet cover inside out. This protects the colors and the fabric material, ensuring many years of beauty and use for your duvet cover. It is also a good idea to make sure that your duvet cover is machine washable even before you purchase it. This way you know the care will be simple and easy to manage.
